May 14: Every Team Outside of Dallas-Fort Worth Area Loses, Rangers Take Second Place

Deep in the heart of the Texas, they are celebrating as the Rangers completed the strange trip between last place and second place. The Angels, in second yesterday, fell to the Tigers. Astros (25-11)

Nature made sure the Yankees didn't lose to the Astros. Apparently nature is one of the few things that can stop this team. Today they send Mike Fiers to the mound and go for the sweep in the Bronx - Fiers has been a weak link in the rotation, although not he pitched well his last outing in Orange County against the Angels.

Rangers (18-20)

At least one Texas writer was calling it a lost season just days ago, and yet here we are. The Rangers didn't wait until the last inning to win against the A's this time, instead taking the lead for good in a four-run 7th. The offense is starting to mash, with Nomar Mazara knocking in the go-ahead runs and Elvis Andrus getting three RBIs. They go for the sweep today.

Rangers 6, Athletics 5

The Rangers winning streak has hit five games. 

Angels (18-21)

The Angels win dramatically, they lose dramatically. Bud Norris, who has largely been reliable filling in for the injured Cam Bedrosian, gave up the winning home run to Tigers right fielder J.D, Martinez in the top of the 9th. The Angels will try to win the series today with young Alex Meyer on the mound against Tiger veteran Justin Verlander.

Tigers 4, Angels 3

I've praised the Office of the GM in Los Angeles, but this guy has some awesome details about how they are stitching together a good pitching staff.

Mariners (17-20)

What's happening in Seattle makes you think there really are Baseball Gods, and they hate the Seattle Mariners. For example, they lost yet another starting pitcher, Ryan Weber, who left the game with shoulder tightness. The road trip that started so beautifully has turned nightmarish.

Blue Jays 7, Mariners 2

GM Jerry Dipito says best options for rotation are within the Mariners system.

Athletics (16-20)

On Friday it was Santiago Casilla losing the game, last night it was the tandem of Ryan Dull and Liam Hendricks allowing a four-run 7th inning. Every AL West team sucks on the road, but the A's suck more than anyone, going 5-12. They will attempt to salvage their trip to DFW with a win today. Kendall Graveman will take on former A's pitcher A.J. Griffin.

Rangers 6, Athletics 5

At least one A's fan sees this game as a microcosm for the whole season thus far.
